From where I sit On The Kowch, radio isn't dead. The naysayers like to say it is. But Arbitron has released a study to show radio is alive and well south of the border. And I believe these figures are representative of the state of radio in Canada as well.
Arbitron is the American version of Canada's Bureau of Broadcast Measurements (BBM). Both are responsible for the Portable People Meters (PPM) rating system that determines who and how many people listen to radio and when.
By digging into their vast PPM data base, Arbitron has come up with its Radio Delivers Winter 2012 Report.
In it, Arbitron says 241 million Americans listen to 14.6 BILLION hours of radio every month. Seventy per cent of Americans listen to two hours and 45-minutes of radio a day.
My favourite finding is that 90% of Americans listen to radio between 6 am and 7 pm during the work week. That is an amazing reach that radio has.
Across America, radio is heard by 94% of Adults 18-34, 95% of Adults 18-49, Adults 25-54 and Adults 35-64.
